Politics and Social Issue

Blocking Cell Phone Signals While Driving

Cars, Politics and Social Issue, TechKurt BrownComment

Idea: Cars that disable your cell phone while you're driving, so you don't cause a car accident trying to text or use the phone. Also: using a breathalyzer while driving at full speed; if cars blocked cell phones, idiots would try to use their phone by holding it out the window, causing them to lose their arms in car accidents or by hitting tree branches, making the US look like Sierra Leone

Border Wall Taco Holes

Food, Politics and Social Issue, SillinessChris YoungComment

Idea: Holes to allow people in the US to get tacos from taco trucks on the other side of the border wall on the US-Mexico border. Also: Fri-Hole-es, pneumatic tubes (like at a bank) through the border wall

Pedophile Brain Scans

Futuristic, Silliness, Tech, Politics and Social IssueAndrew YangComment

Idea: Brain scanning of pedophiles and other criminals to check for and remove brain tumors which might be causing their criminal impulses. Also: a supervillain injecting brain tumors to cause criminal impulses, giving kids chemotherapy guns to protect them from the zombie-like brain tumor criminals, fine-tuning the pedophile-causing brain tumors to make everybody attracted to you instead

Tech Ideas for Racial Equality

Education, Futuristic, Politics and Social Issue, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: Three tech-based ideas for transforming society in a way which would lead to more racial equality, including a new grade-school teaching system ("Teach or Die"), a new low-cost futuristic type of housing ("Stuff-On-Demand Housing"), and a new architectural/city-planning framework ("Garage Cities") which would encourage low-cost and flexible entrepreneurship and would also reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne diseases

Raciogastrointestinal Harmony

Food, Politics and Social Issue, Silliness, TechDave CrumbleyComment

Idea: To solve racism by forcing everybody to wear augmented-reality race-swapping glasses which cause them to see their family and their favorite celebrities as the race that they hate the most. Also, a theory that the reason it's hard to digest "ethnic food" (or food from other cultures/races) is racism, and therefore that ending racism will cause both racial and gastrointestinal harmony

Baby Boarding Houses

Business Idea, Parenting, Politics and Social IssueTom WalmaComment

Idea: Boarding houses to provide around-the-clock care to babies until they're around 2.5 years old (and potty trained). Also: accidentally creepy parenting book titles, Puritanical diaper penance, is all postpartum depression hormonal or does changing diapers and not sleeping just suck, the biggest jobs program for uneducated people of all time, giving unprepared parents time (3 years) to get their life on track before they have to be parents

Trump and Drake Are The Same Person

Politics and Social Issue, SillinessKevin KeyComment

Idea: A conspiracy theory that Donald Trump and Drake are the same person, because Drake songs sound kind of like Trump speeches. Also: an impression of Trump singing a Drake song, questioning whether Trump is a reptilian, questioning whether successful draft-dodging makes you smart and if you'd dodge the draft

Teach or Die

Education, Business Idea, Politics and Social IssueTom WalmaComment

Idea: A teaching system which involves firing all of the teachers and replacing them with cheap unskilled classroom monitors, multimedia lessons, and tutors. Multiple companies develop competing lessons for the same small topic (ranging from 1 to 10 classroom hours long). The more successful lessons (based on standardized test results for that topic) will "survive" and be taught to a greater percentage of future students, causing the company to be paid accordingly. Strong competition, continued and rapid lesson improvement, unbiased statistical feedback, and equal opportunity are all built into the system, none of which can be said about the current educational system.

Single-Day Presidential Campaigns

Silliness, Politics and Social IssueJoel FragomeniComment

Idea: A presidential election where the candidates aren't announced until the day before the election. Also: debates don't matter because they aren't really debates anyway. Alternate idea: giving voters drugs that temporarily impair their memories on election day to force them to take a fresh look at the candidates

Food Oasis

Business Idea, Charity, Food, Health, Politics and Social IssueTom WalmaComment

Idea: A service for ordering and purchasing healthy fresh foods in convenience stores and gas stations where there are no nearby grocery stores (i.e. in "food deserts"). Customers pre-ordering via a phone app, intelligent predictive demand algorithms, and order sniping would allow this to be financially plausible. Also: solving a major world problem as a form of revenge to steal the glory from another person trying to solve the same problem

Legalized Prostitution

Politics and Social Issue, NSFWKhurum SheikhComment

Idea: To legalize prostitution (as recommended by a retired police officer). Also: legalizing it for "medicinal purposes", a possible Christian-right feminist reaction, 30 minute marriages, sex robots, hypocrisy and repressed sexuality in Pakistan vs. the US

Gender Equal Baseball

Politics and Social Issue, SportsTom WalmaComment

Idea: A professional baseball league where both men and women are equally represented on each team, and cheerleading counts towards the score of the game. Also: which other sports can women successfully compete against men, T-shirt cannons and mascot races between innings, barnstorming, Slamball and other failed sports leagues

Merged Local Governments

Politics and Social IssueMark SweetmanComment

Idea: There are too many tiny communities (Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Shores, Gross Pointe Woods, City of Gross Pointe) which each have to pay for their own local government services, like libraries, fire departments, etc. which could easily be shared between neighboring communities. Perhaps there could be a softball game between two neighboring local governments, where the loser's government is dissolved and taken over by the winner

Moral Selection

Animal Rights / Vegan, Environmentalism, Futuristic, Politics and Social Issue, SciFi, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: Environmental activism/engineering, where instead of trying to return nature to an arbitrary past before humans arrived, we use genetic engineering, technology, etc. to engineer the environment and the DNA of animals to make them experience more pleasure and less fear and suffering ("moral selection" as opposed to "natural selection" aka Darwinism). It's a way for humans to become "the best thing that ever happened to the universe". And it's the best option for finding meaning in life, because it's such a big task that it won't be solved/automated in many lifetimes, leaving everybody with nothing to do with the rest of their lives. Also, there are plenty of tasks for everybody (even dumb people) to do, like saving animals from freezing to death, gathering DNA samples of animals, etc.

Global Warming Apocalypse Party

Doomsday Prepping, Evil, Futuristic, Politics and Social IssueBrent Von KalamazooComment

Idea: Set a deadline to fix global warming emissions, and if we fail to meet the deadline, "calling it quits for civilization", and conducting a worldwide party for a couple years, or until the food runs out. That way, everybody gets a couple years of the highest quality living, instead of slow miserable decline towards a Mad Max hell

Late-Night History

TV Show, Standup Comedy, Politics and Social IssueTom WalmaComment

Idea: A TV show where people learn about history by watching jokes, primarily obtained from late-night talk show monologues from the relevant time period. Each half-hour episode would be a series of jokes, all about the same historical event, such as the Iran-Contra scandal. Blurbs and graphics would display pieces of information required to understand the event and "get" the jokes, even if you knew nothing about the historical event before watching the episode
