Cars

Drunk Driving Lane

Evil, CarsTyler CaldwellComment

Idea: A road lane with barriers on both sides (like bumper bowling or a Hot Wheels track or a Boring Company tunnel) where it's legal to drive drunk. Also: instead of trying and failing to use police and strict penalties to prevent drunk driving, maybe it'd be safer (for other people) to allow people to drive drunk if they're a safe distance away; people paying to watch entertaining videos and livestreams of the drunk drivers crashing would help fund the drunk driving lane; maybe we could even "gamify" it like Mario-Kart and let people pay to drop obstacles or give the the drivers inventory (i.e. more beer)

Car Wind Chimes

Cars, Business IdeaFat SteveComment

Idea: Wind chimes that hang from the rear-view mirror of your car, which was a business idea his mom had when he was a kid. Also: questioning whether a wind chime clanging every time you use the brakes would be annoying; worrying that your mom's bad business idea will bankrupt the family

Parking Info in Map Apps

App, CarsRyan BrownComment

Idea: For map apps to warn you if there are no available parking spots near your destination, and to give you real-time info to help you park. Also: if pizza places allow you to track a pizza in real-time, why can't map apps keep track of parking in real-time; the app could tell you to hurry up to get the last spot before another car; helping you avoid red lights or cops in real-time

Car Lifting-Parking Valet Machine

Cars, Robots, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: A self-driving car lift that can act as a valet by sliding under your non-self-driving car, parking it for you, and then later returning it to you. Also: it could use the same self-driving tech that Tesla uses, but be limited to slow speeds and have front/rear padding for extra safety; millions of tech bros will soon be able to get out of their Tesla right in front of the entrance of a store (in front of the handicapped spots) and then have their cars park themselves, giving the handicapped an inferior parking experience; this valet machine would make handicapped spots unnecessary, but if there are no handicapped spots, stores might need human valets as backups for when these valet machines break down; the valet machine could drive your car through a car wash while you shop, and also Tom has never washed his car

Drive-Thru Buffet

Food, Silliness, CarsSean FrancisComment

Idea: A drive-thru buffet where your car sits on a moving track inside a building (like an automatic car wash), you stick your arm out the car window and grab food as your car slowly moves by the buffet tables, and your car (with you and the food inside) is weighed to see how much food you grabbed to determine how much to charge you. Also: backing up and crashing if you missed a food that you want; "coal rolling" to pepper the food with exhaust; tweaks to make the idea a little more practical, like standing next to the car as it moves through the buffet to better reach the food, or a redesign where the car is parked next to a round rotating buffet

Car Seat Toilet

Cars, Tech, SillinessHaleigh PotterComment

Idea: A retractable car seat toilet for the driver to use the restroom while driving or in a stopped car. Also: a built-in bidet because it'd be hard to wipe while driving; dumping the waste onto the road and creating an "oil slick" like in Mario Kart; reusing the waste as windshield wiper fluid; becoming the crazy astronaut diaper lady

Self-Driving Car Pothole Filling Device

Cars, Invention, FuturisticTom WalmaComment

Idea: A device in the "frunk" of a self-driving electric vehicle which drops hot asphalt or other road materials into a pothole as you drive over it (without stopping the car). If you did this (i.e. used your self-driving car to help repair the roads), you wouldn't have to pay EV road taxes. Also: using hovercraft-like cars to float over potholes; the risk of other cars driving into the hot asphalt that you just put in the pothole, and other possible problems with the idea; stories of potholes giving us flat tires

Wind-Powered Tractors

Cars, Environmentalism, Food, Invention, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: Tractors powered by sailboat-style sails instead of fossil fuels. Also: calculations of the power generated by sails vs. the power needs of different types of tractors; using a battery-powered tractor and charging it via a stationary windmill (or a windmill on top of the tractor); Tesla tractor conversion kits; questioning whether people would volunteer to farm your field for free if the tractor was fun like a sailboat, and questioning whether that notion (ie trying to get people to farm for free) is dangerously close to slavery

Street Light Deer Spotlights

Cars, Drones, Environmentalism, Futuristic, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: For street light poles to have LIDAR sensors and to use AI (artificial intelligence) to detect deer in the dark and then shine a spotlight on the deer to help drivers see them and thus avoid hitting them. The AI would prevent falsely detecting deer and erroneously turning on the spotlight all the time, unlike crappy motion lights for your house which turn on all the time when the wind blows leaves in nearby trees. Also: if it can detect deer and then turn on (and aim) a spotlight, it could also detect cars and pedestrians and only turn on the normal (stationary) street light if someone is there; to get rid of most of the street signs because drivers can use navigation apps instead; to use spotlights (which are either mounted on street light poles or are being flown by drones) to light the area in front of cars so we no longer have to rely on other drivers to dim their "brights" to not be temporarily blinded as they drive by

Podcast Studio On-The-Go

Business Idea, Cars, MusicBryan HarrisonComment

Idea: To put podcast recording gear in a van and rent out recording time to other podcasters, and to drive the van to where they want to record. Also: the creepiness factor of telling a stranger to step into your van and maybe putting a boot on the tire of the van during the recording so they trust you not to kidnap them; renting out the van for other activities; putting a cheesy logo on the van and then embarrassing your kids by driving them to school in it; the "Chris Farley dream" (to live in a van down by the river)

Mass Transit Sky Trams

Cars, TechNick PizzutiComment

Idea: To use "sky trams" (aka "aerial tramways" or "cable cars") for mass transit in the US. They could be used in several places, such as in the mountains, between skyscrapers, in the center of split highways, in Miami after Florida sinks underwater due to global warming, and in Alaska after the permasoft melts and turns the ground to mud. Also: self-driving cars syncing together to drive really close to each other at exactly the same speed and designed to be aerodynamic while tailgating each other; commuting via electric bicycle and the theft/vandalization of electric bikes and scooters

Physical Skills As Roadside Sobriety Tests

Cars, SillinessTravis HarganComment

Idea: For cops to use tests of physical motor skills as sobriety tests, as opposed to mental sobriety tests with no relation to the physical act of driving, such as saying the alphabet backwards or following a moving pen with your eyes. Physical skill-based sobriety tests could be party games (Dance Dance Revolution, ping-pong), demonstrations of a physical talent (such as juggling), or a driving simulator videogame built into the back seat of the cop car. Also: being exempt from a sobriety test if you just bowled a 288; asking the illiterate to say the alphabet backwards; a reality show in a bar where they make you do physical tests to get your keys to drive home

Uber Ambulance

Cars, Business Idea, Politics and Social Issue, SillinessBart DangusComment

Idea: An Uber-like transportation service where the drivers use normal vehicles (i.e. not ambulances) to recklessly speed you to the hospital, for much less cost than a traditional ambulance. Also: a cheaper alternative for less life-threatening injuries; strapping the injured person to the hood so the cops know why you're speeding; euthanasia via Miata

Black GPS

App, Tech, CarsDani HaHaComment

Idea: A GPS system for your car which has special features for Black people and which has a strong voice personality, such as Samuel L. Jackson, who yells at you to ensure you don't ignore important warnings (like to avoid dangerous areas). Also: instead of warning you about speed traps, it'd warn you about "trap houses"; instead of warning you about a "disabled vehicle ahead", if you're approaching a broke ex's house, it'd warn you of a "disabled man ahead"; letting you know if cops are nearby; the GPS system could use a megaphone to yell at potential carjackers outside your car to scare them off

Stuff-On-Demand Modular Tiny RVs (Tom Walma)

Tiny Houses, Robots, Futuristic, CarsTom WalmaComment

Idea: Pickup-truck-sized RVs which have flat truck beds which are divided into four rectangle segments onto which modular "RV cubes" containing your stuff (or stuff that you rent) can be popped on and off on demand at rest stops. Also: "RV cubes" containing beds, tables, jacuzzis, or gear for outdoor activities; ordering stuff from Amazon and shipping it to a rest stop which puts it into an "RV cube" so it's ready to pop onto your vehicle when you arrive; a "bathroom RV cube" with a toilet that's emptied and cleaned at the rest stop; "RV cube" speed dating; designing the future of the world like we're all in the movie "Speed"

License Plate Hate App

Cars, App, Silliness, Social MediaAdam WestComment

Idea: An anonymous messaging app to allow disgruntled drivers to send angry text messages to other drivers using their license plate. It would instantly cause a huge spike of deaths from these disgruntled drivers crashing while trying to send angry texts. But these aren't the best people anyway. Also: joyriding in someone else's car to cause them to get woken up by angry messages; an angry message to another driver might somehow lead to a marriage; taunting criminals during televised high-speed car chases

Tailgate Grill

Cars, Invention, Event or ActivityJustin McLeodComment

Idea: A grill built into the tailgate of a truck, for the purposes of tailgating (partying before a college sporting event). After leaving the game, if a driver is tailgating you (driving too close behind you), you could release the meat grease and ash onto the hood of their car. Also: Maybe the combination of rain and the wind from the moving truck could clean the grill

Self-Driving Delivery Cars Without Human Safety Features

Cars, Futuristic, TechMark SweetmanComment

Idea: After you go shopping, you'll leave in a self-driving one-person car which has human safety features, and your purchased items would go into a self-driving delivery car which is cheap because it doesn't need airbags or safety features required for transporting people. The self-driving delivery car might combine multiple deliveries in one trip like Uber carpooling, and might not arrive at your house as quickly as you do

Boozr

Cars, Business Idea, FoodMarkus OlindComment

Idea: An app for buying and delivering booze and other items from a local liquor store to your house (or the nearest corner if you're homeless). Or it could be like an ice cream truck for adults, in which case grown men holding dollar bills would be drunkenly chasing the booze truck through the neighborhood in a zig-zag line. Also: A liquor-shaped vehicle similar to the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile

"Ice Baby" Winter Car Cover

Cars, InventionTom WalmaComment

Idea: A heated car cover for winter so you don't have to scrape snow and ice off your car. When not in use, it would be kept inside a box in one of the car seats. The box would look like a baby, and would be hollow like a Russian nesting doll. The car cover would be permanently attached to the box, and would have a hole for your car door latch, so you could close your car door with part of the car cover still inside the car (and also connected to the cigarette lighter for electricity to heat the car cover in the rare case that ice freezes it to the outside of the car). Also, keeping part of the car cover attached to the box in the car seat ensures that the car cover is always aligned correctly for quickly and easily wrapping it around the car (i.e. you don't have to fumble with finding the front of the car cover, the car cover blowing away, etc). Also: a parking spot which has an electric car charger could also have some sort of electronic device to keep snow and ice off the car which is parked there; using fire to remove a frozen-on car cover
