Charity

Karma Peacock NFTs

App, Charity, Social MediaTom WalmaComment

Idea: An NFT-based social media application where each person has a peacock avatar, and people (or charities) give them a "feather" as a reward for doing a good deed, and so the more good deeds they do, the more elaborate their peacock becomes, allowing them to show off (aka "to peacock") their good karma to their friends. Also: each feather would include information about the good deed so other people can see why you earned it; people could give you cryptocurrency as a reward for a good deed; human auditors could verify that the highly-rewarded good deeds actually happened; discussing whether the possibility of a financial reward ruins the "purity" of good deeds; maybe people have always wanted to give like $5 as a reward to people they see on the local news who saved a puppy or something but there was never a convenient way to do so

Kale for the Homeless

Food, CharityMatti YaariComment

Inspired by a standup comedy premise that kale tastes so bad that hungry/homeless people wouldn't take it, the idea is a charity that gives raw kale (and only kale) to the homeless. It'd supply nutrients that the homeless don't get from handouts on the street (snacks, fast food, food from street vendors), assuming that we can convince the homeless to actually eat it. Also: questioning whether it would be charity or torture; the homeless could pad their coats with the kale or burn it for warmth; homeless people struggling to eat kale without gagging might inspire sympathy from passers-by who might therefore give more donations; could we teach the homeless in the US to grow their own food in community gardens like the homeless do in Vietnam

Ethical Shopping Barcode App

App, Charity, Environmentalism, TechJustin McLeodComment

Idea: An app to scan barcodes while shopping to tell you if the product was produced ethically. It could show emojis of kids crying or forests burning if you scan the wrong thing

Food Oasis

Business Idea, Charity, Food, Health, Politics and Social IssueTom WalmaComment

Idea: A service for ordering and purchasing healthy fresh foods in convenience stores and gas stations where there are no nearby grocery stores (i.e. in "food deserts"). Customers pre-ordering via a phone app, intelligent predictive demand algorithms, and order sniping would allow this to be financially plausible. Also: solving a major world problem as a form of revenge to steal the glory from another person trying to solve the same problem

Karma Peacock

App, Charity, Social MediaTom WalmaComment

Idea: An app to "peacock" your charitable acts/donations and other good deeds, to peer pressure other people into also doing good things. The app would display a peacock avatar on your social media which would be more or less flamboyant depending on how much good you do

Helper Faires

Charity, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: Community events based on a theme (such as clothes, electronics, baby stuff, food, etc.) where people in the community get together to sell, donate, recycle, make, repair, customize, mentor/teach, etc., all based on that particular theme. Kind of like a flea market, recycling center, repair/customization shop, etc. all in one. The goals are to make charity and recycling more convenient and efficient, and to bring people in a community together (including people of different income levels, for example: rich people getting clothing repaired/resized at the same place that poor people receive clothing donations)

Habitat for Hipsterity

Health, Tiny Houses, CharityTom WalmaComment

Exercising in a gym is selfishly controlling machines (i.e. exercise equipment) in a way that benefits nobody else, and therefore provides you no contentment. And even the selfish benefits aren't perceptible enough to motivate you to do it. Why not instead have a charity where you build tiny houses for exercise? You could make it convenient and build the tiny houses indoors in a gym-like building on your own schedule. And you could either donate them to charity, or work towards earning your own tiny house, which might allow you to quit your day job and pursue your hipster creative dreams
