App

Shazam for Birds

AppCamila BallarioComment

Idea: A Shazam-like app to identify bird species by listening to them. It could give you info about the birds, including the species name, interesting trivia, how rare they are, whether it is legal to shoot them, and recipes for eating them

DoTube

App, Business IdeaTom WalmaComment

Idea: A way to "fix the internet" by putting blogs, animations, and all of the miscellaneous stuff of the Internet inside a YouTube-like window, because nobody wants to go to wwww.someguyswebsite.com, and because YouTube's recommendations, subscriptions, top videos of the day list, view counts, etc. allow discovery of new content and for content to "go viral", and because a YouTube-like ad system allows content creators to make money

ShameMe App

App, Evil, NSFW, SillinessLeighton WardComment

Idea: An app to fat-shame you, or shame you in some other way, to motivate you to lose weight or improve yourself. It could also provide motivational/instructional advice, such as "Today's diet plan: don't eat". It could be location-aware and insult you if you walk into a fast food restaurant. You could anonymously hire childhood bullies, family members, or celebrities to send audio of customized insults to incorporate into the app

Biggest Loser Online Dating

App, Health, Social MediaDavid StevesComment

Idea: An online dating site for people trying to lose weight, because "The Biggest Loser" is the most successful TV reality show for creating real-life married couples, and because "the couples who lose weight together stay together". The site could match local people like Tinder, and get them to work out together in the same gym, because the military shows that shared perseverance through a hardship often creates strong, lifelong social bonds

Black Niche Dating Sites

App, Social MediaMike GeeterComment

Idea: Niche dating sites for African-Americans, such as black farmers only, black lumberjacks aka "lumberblacks", and black bears. But not "black furries", because that's "white people sh**". Also, odd niche dating sites which already exist, such as a dating site for sea captains

Life Guide App

App, Education, Futuristic, TechBryan DeuchlerComment

Idea: An app that monitors what you're doing all day and uses artificial intelligence to give you advice, kind of like "an angel on your shoulder that also keeps you from being stupid". It can also go back into it's recorded history of your life, and show you a sequence of decisions that led to a bad outcome, to help you learn from your mistakes

Can I Get A Witness App

App, Social MediaAmanda BrewingtonComment

Idea: A social media app/feature which requires other people to be "witnesses" of a post (i.e. confirm that they were there and saw what happened), so it's harder to lie about yourself on social media. Also, other people can post (possibly bad) things about you, along with corroborating witnesses, which will hopefully pressure people to not be jerks

Fitbit Reward Mystery Box Service

Business Idea, App, HealthTom WalmaComment

Idea: A service that delivers you customized candy/rewards inside clear locked boxes which you can't open until you meet your exercise goals, as determined by your Fitbit (or fitness tracker). Or you can choose for the rewards to be "mystery boxes", including possible cash prizes, but if you don't exercise enough to unlock the box within a few weeks, you have to ship it back, not knowing if you would've been a millionaire

Individually Adjustable Window Blinds

App, Invention, TechTom WalmaComment

Tom thinks that window blinds are designed wrong, because when they are half open, they expose your groin to your neighbors and block your eyes from seeing out the window. He'd like individually-adjustable window blinds controlled by an app, that way you can choose what you can see (and which body parts to expose)

Car Hookup Spot App

App, NSFW, Social Media, CarsJeff HorsteComment

An app to tell you the best places (private, safe from cops and criminals) to hook up in your car, which you might want to do because you don't want to show your partner how gross your apartment is. Plus, a beneficial role for perverts in society

Contact Buy App

App, MusicTom WalmaComment

An app named "Contact Buy" for performers to sell digital music/comedy and digital photos and autographs to fans at their shows. That way, the fans don't have to deal with annoying physical things like CDs or "download cards", and they can use the digital autograph and photo taken with the musician/artist as "album art" when the song is played on their phones. And since the artist sells directly to the fans, they don't have to give a 30-40% cut to an iTunes/Amazon/GooglePlay digital music store

Reverse Patreon

AppTom Walma1 Comment

Idea: An enhancement to monthly-donation websites such as Patreon to allow you to temporarily adjust your donation to penalize (or reward) the content creator, and also give them a comment explaining why you're penalizing or rewarding them. You could also cap your overall total monthly donation, so if you reward one content creator with a bonus one month, it would automatically slightly reduce your donations to other content creators that month, so you can quickly give out a bonus without worrying about accidentally spending too much money

Cinderella App

Evil, App, Parenting, TechScott Fischer1 Comment

Idea: An app which allows parents to remotely shut off a tail-light on their teenage kid's car if the kid stays out too late. That way, if the kid's gonna be out too late, he better stay sober, because he's at a high risk of getting pulled over

Comedy Night Videogame Livestream

Social Media, Event or Activity, AppScott WildingComment

A standup comedy show on the Internet using the standup comedy videogame "Comedy Night" and the videogame livestreaming website Twitch. The show (which will probably be called "Nerdy and Dirty") will have a lineup of real standup comics. The comics will appear as avatars in the "Comedy Night" videogame. On Twitch, they'll also appear as avatars, possibly with additional video of their real faces as a picture-in-picture, and possibly with an additional pre-show interview. The audience will be real people, either the audience from the "Comedy Night" videogame (who can heckle), or, if the comics are performing in a real comedy venue in real life, the audience from that venue

Media Hold-Up Podcast

App, MovieTom WalmaComment

A podcast where a group of people of a variety of ages rate and discuss old movies, music, etc., and only discuss whether it "holds up", i.e. whether they enjoyed it when watching/listening the week before the podcast was recorded. Any discussion which isn't relevant to how much they enjoyed it (such as historical importance, critical accolades, etc.) would be interrupted. Unlike virtually all media review web sites, podcasts, etc., we wouldn't care about how groundbreaking a movie was or other snobby bulls***. The goal would be to help people find movies or other media that they'd enjoy consuming, which would likely be outside of the era where they would've seen it or heard of it based on their age, and therefore probably wouldn't have been recommended to them by software "recommendation engines" such as on Netflix

PredictionNET

Tech, Education, AppTom WalmaComment

A web site to allow professionals (scientists, engineers, business leaders) or groups of professionals to make and share predictions about the future, including prediction algorithms (which are based on other predictions and where the predicted outcome changes week to week as new information is received). There would be snapshots of the prediction algorithms, so you can see how the prediction has evolved over time. You'd be able to see the past performance of somebody's predictions. Regular "unverified" people would be able to make predictions as well. And psychic abilities would be disproven (or proven)

Where You From? App

App, Social Media, TechSai-DComment

An app for strangers standing near each other to announce to each other where they consider themselves as "being from", to avoid awkward situations, such as accidentally speaking Japanese to a Korean person, or to help spark a conversation with a stranger, who might be from the same US state, for example. Although there's a risk it could get corrupted by seethingly racist trolls

When you're bored, get on board the "bored app", and it’ll give you a list of stuff to do (outside of your house) near your current location at the current time, which is tailored to your interests.
