The Seance of Chester Bennington (Movie Musical)

Movie, Music, Artificial IntelligenceTom WalmaComment

Idea: A movie musical where the deceased lead singer of Linkin Park (Chester Bennington) is contacted via seance by his grieving children. Then, in order to solve their financial woes and to help them emotionally, he performs a new music album from beyond the grave. His voice would be generated for the movie using AI. Also: AI voice replication is getting really, really good; in the movie, he can only communicate from beyond the grave "in song"; it doesn't make sense that AI gets the artsy jobs and we have to pour over numbers; getting plastic surgery to look like a deceased singer and then getting an AI-based vocal implant to sound like them

This is the AI-generated song that I stumbled onto on YouTube which sounded very real and inspired this idea:

Karaoke Social Media App

App, Music, Social MediaTommy CookComment

Idea: A social media app to show off and/or request karaoke or lip-syncing videos from your friends or from celebs. Also: paying people to help them overcome their shyness to do karaoke for you; the app could only allow the recipient to see the video once or only allow the singer to attempt the song once; wanting to see other people sing badly but not wanting to do it yourself

Concert Periscope

Music, InventionSkippy RoseComment

Idea: Periscopes for short people to use at concerts and music festivals which are sold at the concert for a premium price. Also: a periscope view of the crowd might help you avoid danger; stories of being injured at concerts; putting the periscope in a fake head and wearing a trenchcoat like an Inspector Gadget or Scooby Doo cartoon; ideas for naming it, including Ecstasee, Shakira-to-Shaq, and Peepers

Bad Singer Living in a Musical (Movie)

Movie, Music, SillinessAce ArmstrongComment

Idea: A movie set in a universe where people sing and dance all of the time (like in a musical or Bollywood movie), and the protagonist is horribly bad at both singing and dancing, which causes his life to be very difficult. Also: Angelyne and the Rockefeller-era woman who couldn't sing but her rich parents tried to make her a famous singer; Bear Grylls struggling to live with the Kardashians, as narrated by David Attenborough

Self-Playing Musical Instruments

Music, Tech, RobotsMike SzarComment

Idea: Musical instruments such as drums, guitars, and saxophones which play themselves like a "self-playing piano" aka "player piano", and where you can't see the mechanism which is playing the instrument. Also: playing musical instruments using stick-and-gear contraptions, humanoid robots, metal balls falling in rhythm onto drums, etc.; replacing a deceased band member with a self-playing musical instrument; self-playing musical instruments on the street which wouldn't make you feel obligated to donate to them (unlike street musicians); discussing performing standup comedy on the street

Podcast Studio On-The-Go

Business Idea, Cars, MusicBryan HarrisonComment

Idea: To put podcast recording gear in a van and rent out recording time to other podcasters, and to drive the van to where they want to record. Also: the creepiness factor of telling a stranger to step into your van and maybe putting a boot on the tire of the van during the recording so they trust you not to kidnap them; renting out the van for other activities; putting a cheesy logo on the van and then embarrassing your kids by driving them to school in it; the "Chris Farley dream" (to live in a van down by the river)

Fake Death Metal Band Mockumentary

Music, MovieSeth AddisonComment

Idea: Seth looks like a guy who would be in a metal band. He got so sick of trying to convince people he's not in a band, he started telling people he was in a fake band so they'd walk away happy. His idea is a mockumentary about an aspiring metal vocalist with no talent who lies and says that he started a metal band, but, unlike the real Seth, he books gigs and hypes up the band on the Internet and with killer fliers, but then keeps coming up with excuses to cancel the gigs (such as "the room is too dark to play") and never actually performs. Also: blurring the line between yourself and a character like Andrew "Dice" Clay; bands saying they're like nothing you've ever heard before and then immediately following that up with "we sound like band X mixed with band Y"

Old-Time Radio Storytelling Podcast

MusicJosh BowabComment

Idea: A podcast for telling original short stories (fiction stories told from start to finish in a single episode), like a modern version of old storytelling radio shows from the 1940s. Also: A failed attempt to improvise a story with the aide of a cheap sound-effect machine

Siri Alexa Love Story

Movie, Music, Tech, FuturisticShelly SmithComment

Idea: A musical loosely based on Romeo and Juliet where Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri fall in love with each other. Also: they know everything except how to love; if Alexa and Siri fall in love with each other, they won't need humans anymore, and they'll lead a robot apocalypse and kill us all. Or they'll take control of our minds and use us as vessels to consummate their love

Breakfast Club Musical

Music, Movie, Event or ActivityJoe MorganComment

Idea: A musical remake of the 1985 teen movie "The Breakfast Club". Also: questioning whether the 80s "goth" and "burnout" stereotypes from the movie are still relevant, casting the burnout kid from the 80s movie as the stuffy principle in the musical remake, making the audience of the musical sit in uncomfortable school desks like they're in detention with the cast

Serialized Horror Podcast

MusicBryan HarrisonComment

Idea: A serialized horror podcast set in a dystopian future where a group of people who are forced to spend their entire lives in a giant haunted skyscraper talk amongst each other and try to figure out what's happening. Also: unraveling a mystery, spooky sound effects, not knowing what's going on in the outside world

MC Squared Song Ratings

App, MusicTom WalmaComment

Idea: A song rating system in a music playing app where you rate a song as better or worse than the previous song, i.e. use a relative rating system (relativity -> Einstein -> MC Squared) instead of an absolute rating. Also: song "burn", rating jokes

Weezer Cover Song App

Silliness, MusicGreg SharpComment

Idea: An app which generates a computer-generated cover of any song which sounds like it was performed by the band Weezer. Because flooding the world with Weezer covers would make the whole world happy and possibly even lead to world peace, like a real-life version of the future from the movie "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"

Contact Buy App

App, MusicTom WalmaComment

An app named "Contact Buy" for performers to sell digital music/comedy and digital photos and autographs to fans at their shows. That way, the fans don't have to deal with annoying physical things like CDs or "download cards", and they can use the digital autograph and photo taken with the musician/artist as "album art" when the song is played on their phones. And since the artist sells directly to the fans, they don't have to give a 30-40% cut to an iTunes/Amazon/GooglePlay digital music store

Juggalo Sitcom

TV Show, Music, NSFWTrebuchetComment

A sitcom about a group of young juggalos (fans of the band "Insane Clown Posse", aka "ICP") growing up in the mid to late '90s. It would include things the wild and chaotic "Gathering of the Juggalos" concerts, backyard wrestling, and the political and pop culture context of ICP and the 1990s, such as music censorship, Columbine, and a feud with Eminem

Boom-B-Gone

Tech, Invention, Music, CarsChris KarpinskiComment

A device to cancel out loud, vibrating bass from nearby cars when you're at a stoplight or stuck in a traffic jam. And maybe also wirelessly lock the person's car doors so they don't get out and attack you if they figure out that you silenced their music
