App

Clothing "Photo Fit" App

App, Business Idea, ClothingRicarlo WinstonComment

Idea: A shopping app that uses photo(s) of you (in your underwear) to calculate and show you what the clothes would look like on your body. Also: hackers stealing semi-nude photos from the app; helping the app determine your body dimensions by standing next to a celebrity mannequin (for example, Seth Rogan) in your photos; having to explain to other people why you have a mannequin of Seth Rogan in his tighty-whities in your house

Virtual-Only Experiences With Real Human Guides

Futuristic, Event or Activity, App, Tech, DronesTom WalmaComment

A bunch of ideas for virtual (i.e. Zoom/Skype) entertainment experiences with real human guides, where the experiences would be impossible to do in-person in the real world (as opposed to "Amazon Explore", which is virtual versions of real-world experiences). Examples include virtual tours of historical places and historical disasters, virtual tours of real-world places with "inappropriate" tour guides (such as comedians), video-drone tours of real world places which are off-limits to tourists (the moon, parts of the Grand Canyon, etc.), and real world events/games where the person participating virtually plays a role of a team (for example, being a lookout in a heist)

Generic Gig App With Job Training

App, Business IdeaJason SpitsbergenComment

Idea: Most education and job training is completely unnecessary. You could train almost anybody to do almost any job, like surgery, in under 30 days. So we should reduce training for most jobs by like 90% to allow people to do them as "gigs" using an Uber-like app, with job training built into the app. Also: the "gig economy" might kill drug dealing because now you can do a couple small gigs and spend the rest of the day on the couch playing videogames without the risk of being murdered or sent to prison

Superfi Dating App

Social Media, AppDavid ShankComment

Idea: A dating app which allows you to select potential dates solely by physical characteristics. You select body type, hair color, height, etc. kind of like you're designing a character in a videogame. You can also prioritize and filter out physical characteristics. For example: you prefer blondes over redheads, and want to filter out all of the brunettes. Also: if you're too picky, there's a good chance nobody will want to date you; if everything personality-based in dating profiles is a total lie, selecting dates based only on superficial physical characteristics doesn't seem so bad

24-Hour Service Shops with Scheduling App in Grocery Stores

App, Business IdeaTom WalmaComment

Idea: To put 24-hour service shops (haircuts, banks, cafes, pharmacies, primary care doctors, Japanese vending machines, etc.) in grocery stores and have an app for customers to schedule these services before they come in. Customers will come to the store for the service and buy groceries while they're there. Also: grocery delivery will kill grocery stores unless they transition to being a destination for services; workers could be trained to do multiple services (i.e. be both a hairstylist and a bank teller)

Haircut Scheduling App

App, Business IdeaTom WalmaComment

Idea: An app to arrange off-hours haircuts at barbershops/salons so you don't have to take time off work to get a haircut. Also: businesses that make people stand in line or wait should be destroyed (they should hire extra workers and make them wait for customers); the only thing worse than waiting around while getting paid is waiting around while not getting paid; Tom thinks he bombed doing standup comedy because he was too lazy to get his hair cut and he started to grow bangs that look like a bowl cut

Standardized Smart Device Recharge Plug and App

App, Futuristic, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: To have a standardized plug to allow you to recharge smart devices without taking them down from your wall or ceiling. These devices include touch lights, doorbells, security cameras, clocks, smoke detectors, smart heat vents, digital picture frames, etc. Also: to have a single app which shows you the battery charge state of all of your smart devices all at once, so you don't have the hassle of periodically walking around your house physically checking them all or running half a dozen different apps. Also: A futuristic house which isn't hooked up to electricity and all of the electronics in the house use rechargeable batteries which are periodically recharged by robots

Twitter Theater

Social Media, Standup Comedy, Event or Activity, App, Business IdeaTom WalmaComment

Idea: A performance venue where you vote on Twitter (or some other social media platform) for who will perform that night. It would encourage friendly competition between performers, and would encourage famous people who are in town for other reasons to "drop in" spontaneously Also: purchasing the ticket as part of the vote and getting refunded if the performer you voted for loses; checking the candidates every day at lunch would keep people interested in the venue; it would be a step towards freeing humanity from the prison of constant time commitments

FartLogger

Tech, Health, Invention, App, SillinessTony VasekComment

Idea: A bed that counts and analyzes your farts for health purposes. Also: comparing your fart count to the foods you ate to figure out which foods cause you to fart; taffy-induced stomach gurgling masking the sounds of a potential burglary; keeping drugs on hand so if you accidentally shart in your girlfriend's bed you can lie and say that you muled the drugs so you can party

ExTracker

App, Silliness, TechLauren UchalikComment

Idea: A location-based app to show you where your exes are so you can avoid them, especially when out in public. Also: using notifications and maps; using smoke bombs to help you evade them if they get too close; hiring a sniper to shoot your ex with a dart containing a tracking chip

AI Job Search Assistant

App, Business IdeaDavid SutherlandComment

Idea: An app which uses AI to help you find a job, including creating resumes and cover letters, deciding which job is the best match (good match for your skills, good social groups, not racist), helping you prepare for interviews, etc. Also: budtenders, extremely short resumes, the national food for racism (boiled goose)

Social Media Frame

Futuristic, Social Media, Tech, AppChristian RoyceComment

Idea: An app which runs on "smart glasses" and allows you to view the most recent social media post(s) of whoever you're looking at. The primary purpose is to see if you're compatible with them (or see if they're crazy) before flirting with them. Also: the TV show "You" and questioning whether the app is creepy, altering your flirting strategy based on their social media, we each share our most recent tweet and discuss whether it'd discourage women from flirting with us

Social Role App

App, Social MediaCorey RiceComment

Idea: A social media app to share nearby people's "roles" in your life with them, as if life was a movie, such as "clumsy waiter", "creepy security guard", or "hot girl who lives on my floor". Also: gamifying casual relationships, a passive form of dominance, a "tag cloud" of your most common roles/attributes, finding out how people perceive you and then figuring out how to change yourself to improve people's perceptions and/or expectations of you

Pot Paranoia Reduction App

App, SillinessDC BradleyComment

Idea: An app to remind people who are smoking weed or eating edibles not to freak out, i.e. no cops are coming to get them (unless, of course, the cops are coming to get them). Also: friends could alter the app to prank you, the app might backfire and freak you out more if you're on LCD

Sponsor-A-Millennial

App, Business Idea, Social Media, SillinessMichael DinkelisComment

Idea: A service for wealthy old people to send money to unemployed millennial hipsters and art students to feel young and cool again. Also: taking old people to parties and pretending they fit in, the old person can teach the millennial about money and the young person can teach the old person how to use an iPhone, what to do if the unemployed millennial isn't cool enough to attract wealthy old people

Moms & Pops App

App, Business Idea, Parenting, Social MediaFelicity BlueComment

Idea: An app to hire maternal or paternal figures to give advice, teach you life skills, provide emotional support, help perform errands, etc. Also: your real parent can hire someone to do things for you that they don't want to do, hiring parental figures means they can't give you "tough love" and are thus "parent as slave (unless you choose the "tough love" option in the app), no "adult baby" stuff

"Try Anything For Free" Grocery Store

App, Business Idea, FoodTom WalmaComment

Idea: A grocery store where, instead of having only a handful of free samples, you can have a free sample of anything you want. You select the item and scan it with a phone app, which will tell you if you've reached your free sample limit for the week, if you've already tried the item (and thus can't have another free sample), or if you're approved for the free sample. Some items will be totally free (you can just throw it in your grocery cart and it'll be free when you check out), and other items will have smaller free portions, in which case the app will instruct an employee in the store to prepare a free sample for you, which will be available for you to pick up at the customer service counter by the time you finish shopping. The goal is to motivate people to come to the grocery store instead of shopping online.
