Event or Activity

Twitter Theater

Social Media, Standup Comedy, Event or Activity, App, Business IdeaTom WalmaComment

Idea: A performance venue where you vote on Twitter (or some other social media platform) for who will perform that night. It would encourage friendly competition between performers, and would encourage famous people who are in town for other reasons to "drop in" spontaneously Also: purchasing the ticket as part of the vote and getting refunded if the performer you voted for loses; checking the candidates every day at lunch would keep people interested in the venue; it would be a step towards freeing humanity from the prison of constant time commitments

Neverending Virtual Open Mic

Standup Comedy, Tech, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: To have a never-ending (24 hours a day) virtual open mic for standup comedy. It would use a proprietary system of filtering out background noises of the audience, and would incorporate the emcee, phone screeners, and "bouncers" (who can mute audience members). Also: a few other ideas for movie theaters and live comedy venues; where to locate the emcees around the world for the 24-hour virtual open mic so they all work an evening/night shift; combining a virtual comedy show with a live in-person comedy show

Movie Premiere Comedy Showcase

Event or Activity, Movie, Standup ComedyShane DialsComment

Idea: A show which consists of live standup comedy followed by a movie premiere (such as a Marvel movie). The show is located in a movie theater, and the comedians sometimes do comedy which is loosely related to the movie. Also: how to run shows in movie theaters, falling asleep as an emcee of a midnight show

Deadly Escape Room

Evil, Event or Activity, NSFW, Silliness, TV ShowJason AltComment

Idea: Escape rooms with real danger, like the movie Saw, which are possibly televised. Also: a more intense corporate team-building exercise or test of character for engaged couples, white-collar criminals tend to be smarter than regular criminals and thus would be funner to watch in a Saw-like escape room, wondering why there aren't any recreational drugs that are taken using acupuncture needles

Robot Fish for Scuba and Underwater Theme Parks

Event or Activity, Futuristic, Robots, SciFi, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: To put fake robot fish in the ocean for scuba-divers and snorkelers to look at to compensate for the real fish that are dying off, and to create underwater theme parks to scuba-dive through such as Atlantis, haunted sunken pirate ship, Little Mermaid, scuba through the human body, etc. Also: mistaking a real shark for a robotic shark, a VR-headset scuba mask in an empty pool, "The best way I can describe the experience of snorkeling is 'a shared unspoken conspiracy of fake positivity' because everybody can see that the ocean is mostly dead"

Valet Simulator Videogame

Cars, Event or ActivityJon RuggieroComment

Idea: A silly, over-the-top "valet simulator" videogame, similar in spirit to Paperboy, where you have to dodge obstacles, fight off dragons, perform reckless driving maneuvers, etc. and still return the car to the owner with minimal damage. Also: the odd trend of videogames based on boring jobs, tipping the hospital valet, tipping driverless cars, accidentally leaving stuff in the car like guns, babies, or both a gun and a baby

Car Dealership Murder Mystery

Cars, Event or Activity, MoviePeggy BeattieComment

Idea: A comedic murder mystery play similar to the movie "Clue" which takes place in a racially-diverse car dealership during a big car sale. Also: your coworkers at the car dealership are being killed off but you don't run away or call the police because their deaths mean that you'll get more sales commissions, the worst customers at a used car dealership are white women who are retired schoolteachers

Breakfast Club Musical

Music, Movie, Event or ActivityJoe MorganComment

Idea: A musical remake of the 1985 teen movie "The Breakfast Club". Also: questioning whether the 80s "goth" and "burnout" stereotypes from the movie are still relevant, casting the burnout kid from the 80s movie as the stuffy principle in the musical remake, making the audience of the musical sit in uncomfortable school desks like they're in detention with the cast

Squawkbox

Movie, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: A series of soundproof rooms (called "squawkboxes") along the walls of a movie theater in which small groups of people can talk to each other and use their cell phones while watching the movie. Also: themed squawkboxes such as "hotel room squawkboxes" and "parental lounge squawkboxes" and "singles bar squawkboxes", types of movies that would be best for squawkboxes

Innovation Olympics

Event or Activity, Futuristic, Sports, TechTom WalmaComment

Idea: A new type of Olympics where each event is designed to promote innovation in human biological enhancement/recovery, sporting equipment technology, or both; events include Human Battering Ram, Vertical Running, Flugtag (human powered flying machines), Artificial Liver Drinking Contest, and Team Pole Vault (where the pole vaulter goes so high they need to parachute down). Also: a moderate amount of danger and serious injury is encouraged because it advances the technology of medicine and physical therapy

Drone-Propelled Rollerskating VR Game

Event or Activity, Futuristic, Tech, DronesTom WalmaComment

Idea: A virtual reality videogame where the main character uses a handheld helicopter drone to propel himself/herself around on roller skates and chop up enemies. Also: VR for exercise, changing the stereotype of a "gamer", movement in VR that won't make you feel sick like walking or running often does

Backwards Time Travel

Futuristic, SciFi, Tech, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: A weird way to approximate backwards time travel in video games and possibly the real world. Also: the "Back to the Future" disappearing photo, memory manipulation and trans-cranial direct-current stimulation, delayed remembering of externally-stored memories, the perils of living in the past, the "satanic panic" of the 80s, Wild West bar fights

Recreational Fake Kidnapping

Event or Activity, SillinessDan TurcoComment

Idea: A recreational fake kidnapping service (as inspired by "escape rooms") where you have to solve puzzles to escape. Also: a fake kidnapping "promposal" and how it could go wrong, PTSD, staging a heroic escape (as a couple) from fake kidnappers and then never telling your girl/boyfriend that it was fake

Human Landscapes Golf

NSFW, Event or Activity, SportsTom WalmaComment

Idea (NSFW): A golf course filled with nature that looks like human anatomy (cactuses that looks like dicks, trees with lumps that look like butts, sand dunes shaped like the female body, etc.). The caddies would use a bunch of silly adult golf puns ("if you hook your shaft you could get lost in the bush", "there's a ball washer available after you complete the back 9", etc.)

Obama Challenge

Event or Activity, Silliness, Prank, EducationTom WalmaComment

Idea: A social experiment or contest to see what's memorable. A bunch of contestants would each do something weird or interesting while meeting a famous person (such as President Obama) in public for a 5-10 second handshake or autograph. Then, years later, the famous person is put in a room with each of the contestants, to see which contestants were remembered by the famous person

Hole-y Day Holiday

Event or Activity, NSFW, SillinessTed MossComment

Idea (NSFW): An atheist holiday named "Hole-y Day" where you put a hole in your yard, such as a giant tire, to signify both the vast emptiness of the universe and your desire to participate in a Holey Day free love session with someone you've never been with. Also involves throwing things into holes, monkeys, and a symbolic deity who wears yoga pants

Kid-Powered Theme Park

Business Idea, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: An amusement park containing carnival-sized rides and small roller-coasters which are all powered by kids, either while they're riding the ride or while they're in line for the ride. They'd power the rides by pedaling, pulling on a rope, spinning a giant wheel, etc. The fact that they'd be contributing to the fun of other kids would provide a deeper level of contentment than just passively experiencing the rides. Also, it'd wear them out, and therefore give their parents some private time later in the evening.

Helper Faires

Charity, Event or ActivityTom WalmaComment

Idea: Community events based on a theme (such as clothes, electronics, baby stuff, food, etc.) where people in the community get together to sell, donate, recycle, make, repair, customize, mentor/teach, etc., all based on that particular theme. Kind of like a flea market, recycling center, repair/customization shop, etc. all in one. The goals are to make charity and recycling more convenient and efficient, and to bring people in a community together (including people of different income levels, for example: rich people getting clothing repaired/resized at the same place that poor people receive clothing donations)
